Target Information
CAMK4 (CaMKIV) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that phosphorylates CREB, oncoprotein 18, and SRF. It has limited tissue distribution and is implicated in transcriptional regulation in lymphocytes, neurons, and male germ cells. The nuclear localization of CaMKIV supports its role in calcium-dependent gene expression. It is abundant in testis, T-cells, and neurons, and contributes to synaptic plasticity and calcium signaling. In testes, CaMKIV is expressed in germ cells and associated with chromatin, suggesting a role in chromatin remodeling during spermatid nuclear condensation.
