Target Information
The Nectin 2 gene encodes a single-pass type I membrane glycoprotein with two Ig-like C2-type domains and one Ig-like V-type domain. It is a plasma membrane component of adherens junctions and serves as an entry receptor for certain mutant strains of herpes simplex virus and pseudorabies virus, facilitating cell-to-cell viral spread. Variations in this gene are associated with differences in multiple sclerosis severity. Alternate transcriptional splice variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
