Target Information
PTF1A is a component of the pancreas transcription factor 1 complex and plays a key role in mammalian pancreatic development. It helps determine whether cells in the pancreatic buds proceed toward pancreatic organogenesis or revert to duodenal fates. PTF1A is involved in maintaining exocrine pancreas-specific gene expression, including elastase 1 and amylase. Mutations in this gene can cause cerebellar agenesis, and loss of expression is observed in ductal-type pancreatic cancers.
