Target Information
The RAD23B gene encodes a human homolog of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Rad23, a protein involved in nucleotide excision repair (NER). RAD23B participates in protein complexes that complement the NER defect of xeroderma pigmentosum group C (XP-C) cells and interacts with 3-methyladenine-DNA glycosylase (MPG), suggesting a role in DNA damage recognition during base excision repair. The protein’s N-terminal ubiquitin-like domain interacts with the 26S proteasome, indicating involvement in the ubiquitin-mediated proteolytic pathway.
