Target Information
The Metabotropic Glutamate Receptor mGluR4 (GRM4) binds L-glutamate, the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It activates both ionotropic and metabotropic glutamate receptors. Glutamatergic neurotransmission is essential for normal brain function and can be altered in various neuropathologic conditions. Metabotropic glutamate receptors are G protein-coupled receptors classified into three groups based on sequence homology, signaling mechanisms, and pharmacologic properties.
