Target Information
ATG4C는 자가포식(autophagy)에 관여하는 단백질로, 세포 내에서 손상된 소기관과 단백질을 제거하는 과정에 필수적입니다. 자가포식은 세포 항상성 유지, 분화, 노화 및 비세포사적 세포 사멸 과정에서 중요한 역할을 합니다.
일부 악성 종양에서 자가포식 수준이 감소되어 있으며, 자가포식이 암세포의 비정상적 성장 조절에 관여할 가능성이 제시되었습니다.
이 유전자는 autophagin 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, cysteine protease 활성을 가지는 C-54 family 구성원으로 알려져 있습니다.
MAP1LC3, GABARAPL2, GABARAP 등의 단백질의 C-말단을 절단하여 autophagosome 결합이 가능한 form II를 생성하는 효소로 작용합니다.
ATG4C는 골격근, 심장, 간, 고환에서 높은 발현을 보입니다.
