Target Information
Piezo1 is a pore-forming subunit of a mechanosensitive non-specific cation channel that generates currents with a linear current-voltage relationship, sensitive to ruthenium red and gadolinium. It contains 36 transmembrane domains and functions as a homotetramer. Piezo1 is crucial for epithelial cell adhesion via integrin activation and calpain signaling, and plays roles in sensing intraluminal pressure and shear stress, contributing to endothelial organization and vascular formation. Mutations in PIEZO1 are linked to dehydrated hereditary stomatocytosis and lymphedema.
