Target Information
SENP8 (Cysteine protease FKSG8; DEN1; FKSG8; HsT17512; NEDP1; PRSC2; SUMO/sentrin specific protease family member 8) is a novel cysteine protease belonging to the ULP family of deubiquitinases.
ULP family members have a C-terminal catalytic domain and N-terminal extensions that determine substrate specificity.
SENP8, a 24 kDa protein, plays a major role in regulating the NEDD8 pathway by processing preNEDD8 to its mature form and deconjugating NEDD8 from substrates such as Cullins and p53.
It may help prevent accumulation of hyper-neddylated cullin and maintain mono-neddylated cullin levels, enhancing ubiquitination efficiency by SCF ubiquitin ligases.
