Product Specific Information
This antibody is predicted to react with rat based on sequence homology.
Heat-mediated antigen retrieval is recommended prior to staining, using a 10 mM citrate buffer (pH 6.0) for 10 minutes, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Following antigen retrieval, incubate samples with primary antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
A suggested positive control is Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Target Information
BCL-XL is a member of the BCL-2 protein family. These proteins form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators involved in various cellular processes.
BCL-XL is located at the outer mitochondrial membrane and regulates the mitochondrial membrane channel (VDAC) opening.
VDAC controls mitochondrial membrane potential, reactive oxygen species production, and cytochrome C release, which are key in apoptosis induction.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encode distinct isoforms: the longer isoform acts as an apoptotic inhibitor, while the shorter form acts as an apoptotic activator.
