Product Specific Information
This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).
This antibody has specificity for Influenza H5N1 (A/Common magpie/Hong Kong/2256/2006) Hemagglutinin/HA.
Target Information
Influenza A virus is a major public health threat, responsible for tens of thousands of deaths annually. In early 2009, a novel swine-origin influenza A (H1N1) virus was identified and rapidly spread worldwide, leading to a pandemic declaration by the World Health Organization on June 11, 2009.
Influenza A virus possesses one of sixteen possible Hemagglutinin (HA) surface proteins and one of nine possible Neuraminidase (NA) surface proteins. Hemagglutinin facilitates viral attachment, while Neuraminidase mediates viral release. Both proteins elicit immune responses that can prevent infection or reduce viral replication.
The 2009 H1N1 strain combined genetic elements from human, swine, and avian influenza viruses, along with new pig H3N2 genes from Eurasia. Its distinct antigenic properties compared with seasonal H1N1 suggest limited pre-existing human immunity, though older populations may retain partial protection.
