Target Information
Adaptins are essential components of clathrin-coated vesicles that transport ligand-receptor complexes from the plasma membrane or the trans-Golgi network to lysosomes. The adaptin family includes alpha, beta, beta-prime, and gamma adaptins. Together with medium and small subunits, they form a heterotetrameric adaptor complex that promotes clathrin-coated pit and vesicle formation. The encoded gamma-adaptin protein belongs to the adaptor complex large subunit family, with two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms identified.
