Collagen IV는 다양한 조직(신장, 폐, 피부 등)의 basement membrane 주요 구성 성분으로, 조직의 안정성과 지지 구조를 형성합니다.
세 개의 알파 체인(COL4A1, COL4A2, COL4A3 유전자에 의해 암호화됨)으로 구성되어 있으며, 해당 유전자 변이는 Alport syndrome 및 Goodpasture syndrome과 같은 유전 질환을 유발할 수 있습니다.
