Target Information
MBL (Mannose-binding lectin) is a key component in the immune response, capable of directly neutralizing invading microorganisms through an antibody-independent mechanism. Mutations in human MBL are associated with immunodeficiency due to reduced complement fixation ability. In humans, MASP-1, MASP-2, MASP-3, and a truncated form of MASP-2 (sMAP or MAp19) form complexes with MBL to activate the lectin pathway of the complement system. MASP-3 is an alternatively spliced product from the MASP-1 gene. The heavy/A chains are identical between MASP-1 and MASP-3, while the light/B chains differ. Activated MASPs cleave and activate downstream components of the complement pathway.
