Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They participate in various cellular processes involving RNA secondary structure modification, such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly.
Some members of this protein family are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division. This gene encodes one such member, though its specific function has not been determined. Alternative splicing generates two transcript variants, one of which remains incompletely characterized.
