Target Information

Laminins are extracellular matrix glycoproteins that form a major noncollagenous component of basement membranes. They are involved in various biological processes such as cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis.
Laminin effects are mediated through interactions with cell surface receptors, including integrins and non-integrin laminin-binding proteins.
This gene encodes a high-affinity, non-integrin laminin receptor (Laminin Receptor 1), also known as 67 kD laminin receptor, 37 kD laminin receptor precursor (37LRP), and p40 ribosome-associated protein.
Its amino acid sequence is highly conserved, indicating an essential biological role. Laminin receptor transcript levels are elevated in colon carcinoma and lung cancer cells compared to normal tissues, correlating with invasive and metastatic phenotypes.
Multiple copies of this gene exist, most being pseudogenes. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
