SPR 유전자는 NADPH 의존적 테트라하이드로비옵테린(BH4) 생합성 과정에서 pteridine 유도체의 환원 반응을 촉매하는 aldo-keto reductase를 암호화합니다.
이 유전자의 변이는 sepiapterin reductase 결핍으로 인한 DOPA-responsive dystonia를 유발할 수 있습니다.
