Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit, composed of RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPL17 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L22P family. It is located in the cytoplasm. Although previously referred to as rpL23 due to sequence similarity with ribosomal protein L23 from Halobacterium marismortui, the official symbol is RPL17. Multiple processed pseudogenes and transcript variants exist, and read-through transcription occurs with the neighboring C18orf32 gene.
