Target Information
The eIF3g subunit is a component of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 (eIF-3) complex, essential for multiple steps in protein synthesis initiation. The eIF-3 complex associates with the 40S ribosome, facilitating recruitment of eIF-1, eIF-1A, eIF-2:GTP:methionyl-tRNAi, and eIF-5 to form the 43S preinitiation complex (43S PIC). It promotes mRNA recruitment and scanning for AUG recognition and participates in ribosomal recycling and prevention of premature 40S–60S subunit joining. This subunit can bind 18S rRNA.
