Target Information
ETFA catalyzes the initial step of mitochondrial fatty acid β-oxidation. It transfers electrons between primary flavoprotein dehydrogenases and the membrane-bound electron transfer flavoprotein ubiquinone oxidoreductase. Defects in ETFA are associated with type II glutaric aciduria, characterized by multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiencies and abnormal excretion of organic acids. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
