Target Information
TRPA1 is a TRP-related channel that responds to cold temperatures and pungent compounds, playing a role in nociceptor and hair cell transduction. It is a transformation-associated gene product in lung epithelia and is primarily distributed in sensory neurons. Blocking TRPA1 may offer therapeutic potential for cold hyperalgesia resulting from inflammation and nerve damage. TRPA1 is also expressed outside the CNS and is dysregulated during oncogenic transformation. Its structure is related to ankyrin and transmembrane proteins, and it may be involved in signal transduction and growth control.
