Target Information
The inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) family of proteins regulates programmed cell death triggered by various stimuli. All IAPs have at least one baculovirus IAP repeat (BIR) motif essential for their anti-apoptotic activity. A novel human IAP family member, Livin (ML-IAP), contains a single BIR domain and a COOH-terminal RING finger domain. Livin has two splicing variants (298 and 280 amino acids), both containing BIR and RING domains. Both isoforms inhibit TNFα-induced apoptosis in Jurkat cells. Livin expression is low in adult tissues but relatively high in developmental tissues and many cancer cells.
