Target Information

Inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta (IKK beta) is a serine kinase essential for the NF-kappa-B signaling pathway, activated by various stimuli such as inflammatory cytokines, bacterial or viral products, DNA damage, and other cellular stresses.
IKK beta phosphorylates inhibitors of NF-kappa-B on critical serine residues, leading to polyubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. This allows NF-kappa-B to translocate into the nucleus and activate transcription of genes involved in immune response, growth control, and protection against apoptosis.
Mutations in the IKK beta gene can result in Immunodeficiency 15 (IMD15).
