Target Information
Myc is a proto-oncogene encoding a nuclear phosphoprotein involved in cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and cellular transformation. The encoded protein forms a heterodimer with the transcription factor MAX, binding to the E-box DNA consensus sequence to regulate transcription of specific target genes. Amplification of this gene is frequently observed in various human cancers. Translocations involving this gene are associated with Burkitt lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Translation may initiate from both an upstream non-AUG (CUG) and a downstream AUG start site, producing two isoforms with distinct N-termini.
