AQP11 encodes aquaporins (AQPs), which are integral membrane proteins facilitating water transport across biological membranes along an osmotic gradient.
Thirteen AQP isoforms (AQP0–AQP12) have been identified in humans and rodents.
Aquaporins facilitate the transport of water and small neutral solutes across cell membranes.
