Target Information
Antizyme inhibitor (AZIN1) protein positively regulates ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity and polyamine uptake.
AZIN1 is an enzymatically inactive ODC homolog that counteracts the negative effects of ODC antizymes (OAZ1, OAZ2, OAZ3) by competing with ODC for antizyme binding.
It inhibits antizyme-dependent ODC degradation and releases ODC monomers from inactive complexes, leading to formation of catalytically active ODC homodimers and restoration of polyamine production.
