Target Information
ZFPM1 is a transcription regulator that plays an essential role in erythroid and megakaryocytic cell differentiation. It acts as a cofactor forming heterodimers with GATA family transcription factors (GATA1, GATA2, GATA3), which can either activate or repress transcription depending on cellular and promoter context. The GATA–ZFPM1 complex activates expression of genes such as NFE2, ITGA2B, and alpha/beta-globin, while repressing KLF1. ZFPM1 may also regulate genes in gonadal and cardiac development in a non-redundant manner with ZFPM2/FOG2.
