Target Information
The CD66b (CEACAM8) gene encodes a member of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) family, part of the immunoglobulin superfamily. This family includes cell adhesion molecules and pregnancy-specific glycoproteins located on chromosome 19. CD66b was first identified in bile ducts and later found on leukocytes, epithelial, and endothelial cells. It mediates cell adhesion through homophilic and heterophilic interactions and is involved in processes such as tissue differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune modulation. Multiple transcript variants exist, though not all are fully characterized.
