Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein comprising about one-half of the blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and plays a role in stabilizing extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is a globular unglycosylated serum protein with a molecular weight of approximately 65,000. It is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential cleavage to form proalbumin and finally secreted albumin.
