Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid F-box motif. These proteins are part of the SCF (SKP1-cullin-F-box) ubiquitin ligase complex, which functions in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
F-box proteins are classified into:
- Fbws: containing WD-40 domains
- Fbls: containing leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs: containing other interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
The FBXW5 protein contains WD-40 domains and an F-box motif, classifying it as an Fbw family member. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified but are considered nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) candidates.
