Target Information
The Olfactomedin family comprises a diverse group of secreted glycoproteins, including OLFM1 (Noelin-1), OLFM2 (Noelin-2), OLFM3 (Noelin-3), OLFM4 (Noelin-4), tiarin, pancortin, gliomedin, and myocilin. These proteins are involved in nervous system development.
OLFM1 and OLFM2 are expressed in the neural plate, neural crest, and cranial ganglia in mouse embryos (E8–10), later appearing in brain tissue and limb polarizing zones.
Overexpression of OLFM1 leads to excessive neural crest emigration and prolonged production, while OLFM2 regulates anterior nervous system development.
An Arg144Gln mutation in OLFM2 is associated with open-angle glaucoma (OAG).
