Target Information
The antizyme family consists of small proteins that regulate polyamine biosynthesis (putrescine, spermidine, spermine), influencing cell growth and division.
OAZ3 (Ornithine decarboxylase antizyme 3) is a 187 amino acid protein in the ODC antizyme family. It plays a key role in spermatogenesis by controlling polyamine concentrations in haploid germ cells through binding and destabilization of ornithine decarboxylase.
Mutations in the AZ3 gene are not a common cause of male infertility. AZ3 expression begins in early spermatids, peaks in later stages, and disappears in spermatozoa.
