Background
This gene encodes a cysteine-rich acidic matrix-associated protein required for collagen calcification in bone. It is also involved in extracellular matrix synthesis and cell shape modulation. The gene product is linked to both tumor suppression and metastasis through its influence on cell morphology. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified (RefSeq, Jun 2015).
