Background
Integrin subunit alpha D (ITGAD) is a member of the beta-2 integrin family of membrane glycoproteins, composed of non-covalently linked alpha and beta subunits forming a heterodimer. It encodes the alpha subunit of cell surface heterodimers and is involved in leukocyte activation and adhesion. The gene is located approximately 11 kb downstream of the integrin subunit alpha X gene, another integrin family member. ITGAD is expressed in tissue and circulating myeloid leukocytes, and alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
