Background
C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 2 (CXCR2) is a G-protein-coupled receptor that serves as a high-affinity receptor for interleukin 8 (IL8). Upon binding IL8, the receptor activates intracellular signaling via G-protein-mediated second messenger systems. CXCR2 also interacts with chemokine ligand 1 (CXCL1/MGSA), which has melanoma growth-stimulating activity, and plays a crucial role in serum-dependent melanoma cell proliferation. It mediates neutrophil migration to inflammation sites and contributes to angiogenesis in intestinal microvascular endothelial cells. Knockout studies in mice indicate that CXCR2 regulates the positioning of oligodendrocyte precursors during spinal cord development.
