Background
Laminins are extracellular matrix glycoproteins and the major noncollagenous constituent of basement membranes. They are involved in cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis. Laminins are composed of three non-identical chains—α, β, and γ—forming a cruciform structure. Each chain is encoded by a distinct gene, and various isoforms combine to form different heterotrimeric laminin complexes, designated numerically (e.g., α1β1γ1 is laminin 1).
