Background
Tumor protein p73 (TP73) is a member of the p53 family of transcription factors involved in cellular stress responses and development. It maps to chromosome 1p36, a region often deleted in neuroblastoma and other tumors, suggesting the presence of multiple tumor suppressor genes. TP73 is monoallelically expressed (likely maternal allele) and considered a candidate gene for neuroblastoma. Various transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing and promoter usage, though the biological validity of some remains uncertain.
