배경 (Background)
This gene encodes a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI)-linked cell surface glycoprotein involved in neutrophil activation.
The protein binds platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 and functions in neutrophil transmigration.
Mutations are associated with myeloproliferative diseases, and overexpression is found in polycythemia rubra vera.
Autoantibodies against this protein may cause pulmonary transfusion reactions and may be involved in Wegener’s granulomatosis.
A related pseudogene adjacent on chromosome 19 has been identified.
