Background
Angiopoietins belong to the vascular endothelial growth factor family and are growth factors specific for vascular endothelium. Angiopoietin-1, -2, and -4 are involved in blood vessel formation. The ANGPTL1/2 gene encodes a secretory protein widely expressed in adult tissues, especially in highly vascularized tissues. This protein does not act as an endothelial cell mitogen in vitro.
