Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine receptor belonging to the interleukin 1 receptor family. It binds interleukin 1 alpha (IL1A), interleukin 1 beta (IL1B), and interleukin 1 receptor type I (IL1R1/IL1RA), acting as a decoy receptor that inhibits ligand activity. Interleukin 4 (IL4) can antagonize IL1 activity by inducing expression and release of this cytokine. This gene forms part of a cytokine receptor gene cluster on chromosome 2q12, with two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein reported.
