Target Information
BCAS1 was identified through positional cloning and is overexpressed in most, but not all, breast cancer cell lines. This cytoplasmic protein is believed to form homodimers via coiled-coil structures. High BCAS1 mRNA expression is observed in brain and prostate tissues, with lower levels in colon, intestine, and testis. Overexpression studies indicate BCAS1 does not promote anchorage-independent growth, suggesting it is not a typical oncogene. BCAS1 amplification has also been reported in pancreatic carcinoma, indicating a potential role in cell proliferation regulation.
