Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. The core structure consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits: two rings of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits. Proteasomes are distributed throughout eukaryotic cells at high concentrations and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides. The PSMB9 gene encodes a member of the proteasome B-type family (T1B family), a 20S core beta subunit located in the class II region of the MHC. Proteolytic processing is required to generate a mature subunit.
