Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif, the F-box. These proteins form part of the SCF (SKP1-cullin-F-box) ubiquitin ligase complex, functioning in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
F-box proteins are grouped into three classes:
- Fbws – containing WD-40 domains
- Fbls – containing leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs – containing various protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
The FBXO8 protein belongs to the Fbxs class and has a C-terminal sequence similar to yeast Sec7p, a regulator of vesicular protein transport. It may interact with ADP-ribosylation factors (ARFs) and exhibit ARF-GEF activity.
