HHATL (Hedgehog Acyltransferase-Like) is a gene that codes for a protein involved in the regulation of Hedgehog signaling pathways. HHATL is located on chromosome 7q36.3. The encoded protein contains an acyltransferase domain, which mediates N-palmitoylation of the Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) protein—essential for proper signaling activity and distribution. HHATL is expressed in various tissues, notably in the heart, suggesting roles in cardiac development and function. Dysfunction in HHATL can disrupt Hedgehog signaling and affect developmental and cellular processes.
