Target Information
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme protein synthesized during myeloid differentiation and is a major component of neutrophil azurophilic granules. It is produced as a single-chain precursor that is cleaved into light and heavy chains, forming a tetramer (2 light + 2 heavy chains). MPO catalyzes the formation of hypohalous acids, key to neutrophil microbicidal activity.
Associated diseases include Myeloperoxidase Deficiency and Familial Alzheimer’s Disease type 1.
