Target Information
This gene encodes a protein that is a component of the NuRD (nucleosome remodeling deacetylase) complex in the nucleus of human cells. It is broadly expressed across many tissues and may be part of a small gene family involved in transcriptional regulation, either directly or indirectly through chromatin remodeling. It is closely related to another family member associated with metastatic potential in carcinomas. Both proteins share DNA-binding, dimerization, and methylation-related domains. One known target of this gene product is p53, where deacetylation correlates with loss of growth inhibition in transformed cells, linking these proteins to metastasis.
