cGAS (Cyclic GMP-AMP synthase)
cGAS is a nucleotidyltransferase that catalyzes the formation of cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAMP) from ATP and GTP, playing a crucial role in innate immunity. It binds cytosolic DNA directly, leading to cGAMP synthesis and activation of TMEM173/STING, which triggers type-I interferon production.
Additionally, cGAS participates in:
- Innate immune sensing of infection
- Detection of bacterial DNA
- Cellular stress response and DNA damage detection
- Regulation of cellular senescence
