Product Specific Information

For immunohistochemistry (PFA-fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

MUC1 (Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA15-3, PEM, EMA) is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic lineages.
It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a mucin-like extracellular domain that undergoes proteolysis and extensive O-linked glycosylation.
MUC1 is highly polymorphic, with alleles encoding 30–90 tandem repeats, resulting in variable molecular weights.
It is abundantly expressed in over 90% of breast carcinomas and metastases.
Transgenic MUC1 associates with all four cebB receptors and localizes with erbB1 (EGFR) in lactating glands.
The MUC1 gene contains seven exons and multiple alternatively spliced variants, some of which produce distinct isoforms.
Overexpression, aberrant localization, and altered glycosylation are associated with various carcinomas.
