Specificity Comments:
Recognizes a 70 kDa protein identified as CD86, a type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. CD86 is highly expressed on resting peripheral monocytes and dendritic cells, and at low levels on resting B and T lymphocytes. Expression is rapidly upregulated by B cell stimuli, peaking at 18–42 hours post-stimulation.
CD86, together with CD80/B71, serves as a key co-stimulatory molecule in T cell activation via interaction with CD28 and CD152/CTLA4. It is considered the major CD28 ligand early in immune responses and is also expressed on malignant Hodgkin and Reed–Sternberg cells in Hodgkin’s disease.

Target Information

CD86 is one of two ligands (along with CD80) for CTLA4 and CD28. It acts as a costimulatory molecule facilitating T-cell activation during antigen presentation. Insufficient co-stimulation via CD86/CD80 can induce immune tolerance.
CD86 is a type I membrane protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily, expressed by antigen-presenting cells. It binds CD28 and CTLA4 on T-cell surfaces, providing positive and negative regulatory signals for T-cell activation.
Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms of CD86. Dysfunction of CD86 has been associated with diseases such as gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
