Target Information
TMPRSS6 is a serine protease that hydrolyzes various proteins including type I collagen, fibronectin, and fibrinogen. It can activate urokinase-type plasminogen activator with low efficiency and may play a specialized role in matrix remodeling processes in the liver. TMPRSS6 is also required to sense iron deficiency, and its overexpression suppresses activation of the HAMP promoter. The encoded protein is a type II transmembrane serine proteinase found on the cell surface and may be involved in liver matrix remodeling.
