Target Information
SYNPO2 (also known as myopodin) is a member of the synaptopodin family containing one PPXY motif and multiple PXXP motifs. It colocalizes with alpha-actinin and is located at the Z-disc. Under stress conditions, SYNPO2 translocates to the nucleus, suggesting a role in signaling pathways as well as structural organization. It binds to calmodulin, alpha-actinin, and smooth muscle myosin, stimulating actin polymerization in a calmodulin-dependent manner. Alterations in SYNPO2 expression have been associated with prostate cancer cell invasiveness and motility.
